Frequently Asked Questions

Question:  What are the routine tests before surgery?
Answer:  Certain basic tests are done 72 hours prior to surgery: a comprehensive laboratory panel, chest x-ray, pregnancy test and EKG.  All patients will have an EGD.  All patients with gallbladders still intact will have an ultrasound.  Other tests, such as pulmonary function testing, sleep studies, GI evaluation, cardiology evaluation, or psychiatric evaluation, may be requested if required by insurance or if your surgeon deems necessary.  Please see the Preoperative Clearance section by clicking on BEFORE THE SURGERY.
